We can use this space to continue the discussion we had in class on Saturday--at least until we next meet or someone comes up with a better online forum--and further refine our groups.
You can post comments easily. You may have to create a blogspot.com account...it's pretty easy.
Who can recall the exact wording of the guiding question we were left with on the board on Saturday? I'm out of town, don't have my notes, and am far too old and mentally decrepit to recall.
Peace,
Scott
Hello again everyone...
ReplyDelete"How do we create a learning community that connects to life?"
In seeking the courageous conversations that need to be had, I have to ask....as educators, what are we aiming for? Success? What does that look like for our children and schools? We clearly have to look beyond the current gains or lack thereof and target the ongoing development of the individual child. How?...is the question at hand...
Rambling thoughts...please join me.

Hello Change Agents! I still believe that we must start now even though the process will take a while. I cannot afford to wait to develop the sense of urgency in the school, classroom, home, and the community. I believe that the professional learning communities can help us reach more stakeholders. But, we have to do it now! I hope to work together to develop something that we can utilize for success now! It may shake-up the schoolhouse!

In constructing a learning community we need to consider the goals, needs, members, purpose, challenges, priorities, organization, and vision of the PLC. Short term goals can be good, as long as their intent is designed to add real value to the lives of our students.
ReplyDeleteIt's about purpose...

I definitely know that inorder to develop the PLC that we have to have the same belief systems and drive the mission, vision, goals, and beliefs throughout the entire process. What are we going to do? Seems as though we are right back where we started, and class is Saturday!
ReplyDeleteWhere is everyone? We have a week to read the book, pick a topic, and have a discussion. ; )
